Wally Foots Field Score Keeping Building

The upgrades for Wally Footz Field at Montrose Park in Edmonton include the design and construction of a scorekeeper building for the baseball park. Inspired by existing industrial site adjacencies, the initial design concept was inspired by Alberta’s iconic and historic grain elevators. Playing on the traditional form and materials of this building typology, the design includes a second-storey bump out that marks the interior scorekeeping activity on the exterior of the building.

Working closely with the client, the design was developed to address the functional requirements of the program within the existing context of the park. It was important for the new scorekeeper building to bring the colour of the existing buildings at Wally Footz Field into the design. Located in a prominent location, the scorekeeping building catches the attention of people passing by on the LRT line and crossing the overpass to the northwest of the site.
